4 Things I’m Celebrating On My 27th Birthday

This year I’m celebrating 27 years of experiencing experiences, feeling feelings, and just overall living life!

The gas crisis derailed my original birthday plans. So I ended up doing things differently and treated every day leading up to my birthday like a Sunday. I took things slow, went with the flow and spent a lot of time in self care mode.

Every year on my birthday someone always asks “what does it feel like to be another year older?”

I always say I don’t feel any different, but a lot has changed. After a year of coping through the pandemic, I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t feel any different this time around. The past year has been an experience. So here are the things that I will be celebrating for my 27th time around the sun while living on this floating rock in the sky:

Growth through uncomfortable situations

In life we grow through what we go through. Growing through an uncomfortable situation is as difficult as it is rewarding. So cheers to coming out in the other side of those situations with more growth than scars.

Finding, defining & using my voice

I may seem nice and quiet but believe me when I say that I am far from it. A lot of times I just feel like it makes more sense to be quiet and let the noise around me gradually die down instead of trying to blend in or fight against it to make myself be heard. However, sometimes it’s better to amplify the message in such a way that the rest of the noise won’t matter.

Standing firm in my beliefs & decisions

Sometimes I say what I mean, mean what I say and then overthink it. I don’t know why that last part even happens but it shouldn’t. I said what I said and it is what it is. Life is written in pen not pencil. If I said something wrong then I can’t change the past but I can make changes in the next chapter. If the next chapter doesn’t mend any wounds then as the days go by time will.

Trusting the process

It took me a while to actually practice this mindset. There is no perfect way to live your life. Things are going to go wrong, nothing is going to be perfect (because perfection is an allusion), and sometimes things are going to happen that are completely out of your control.

I guess you could also say that these things are also lesson I’ve learned and are finally putting to good use. Regardless, I hope that my sharing them with you inspires you.

  1. I love reading this because there’s a lot of things in life I can’t experience myself so I like to hear other people’s lessons because I can learn from them. Thanks for sharing!

Standing firm in your decisions – definitely agree with that one. Sometimes, I feel like i’m standing firm then other time I’m like ‘but what if..’

  2. I feel like birthdays can be a great time to reflect on things and take stock of what worked and what didn’t work over the past year, and I sort of did the same thing this year while I was busy with other obligations outside my blog and day job. That being said, happy belated birthday!
