12 Holiday Activities That Are Still On My Bucket List
It’s the most festive time of the year and the perfect time to start checking off holiday activities from your bucket list!
Cutting snowflakes, creating tree ornaments, helping my mom decorate the tree, driving around to look at the Christmas lights around the neighborhoods – these are a few of the holiday activities I enjoyed as a child. Now that I’m older, I’m still carrying on many of those are traditions while making new ones. However, I realized that I still have a lot of holiday activities left on my list.
Build A Gingerbread House
I vaguely remember doing this as a kid. From what I can recall, I didn’t participate much. I was the kind of kid who could destroy a gingerbread house by simply adding a gum drop. **in my Steve Urkel voice** “Did I do that?”
Visit A Christmas Tree Farm
To put things into a different yet blunt perspective, I want to be surrounded by potential gift hoarding, pine smelling plants. Christmas movies make this seem like a fun experience, but I’ll gladly skip out on bringing a real tree home. I’m not down to clean up the mess it will leave behind.
Attend a Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Last year while I was working at the mall, I found out that there was going to be a tree lighting ceremony. It was only 5 minutes walking distance from where I worked and guess who still managed to miss the main event. Did I question my commitment to the job and work responsibilities that day? Absolutely. Adulting is horrible. I rate it half a star.
Attend a Christmas Choir or Orchestra
I have participated in a Christmas choir in high school. Honestly, now that I think about it… maybe I don’t want to do this one… Next!
Go Christmas Caroling
Before you jump to conclusions, let me explain. When I think of Christmas carolling, all I hear is “Hark! how the bells, Sweet silver bells…”. That’s not the kind of Christmas caroling I want to do. I want to carol around a neighborhood belting out a harmonious mixture of Destiny’s Child’s “8 Days of Christmas” album meets Ariana Grande’s “Christmas & Chill” album.
Take a Family Christmas Photo
My family is beyond overdue for a family photo. I don’t think we’ve taken a family photo since I was little… and here I am more than 20 years later… At this point, I’m tempted to set up a surprise holiday photoshoot.
Kiss Someone Under the Mistletoe
To be honest, I’ve never even seen real mistletoe in person! Or maybe I have and I thought it was a berry bush. I’m not sure. My fiance thinks I’m too “city” to know.
Travel Somewhere Festive
There are 4 places I’ve always wanted to visit during the holiday season. On that list are New York, Jamaica, Japan, and Washington DC. I can just imagine how beautiful those places are during the holidays.
Have a family slumber party under the tree.
I wanted to do this more as a kid than now. I remember going to my room on the week of Christmas and sneaking back downstairs to watching the tree to make sure I don’t miss anything good. At this point I’m just doing it for the aesthetic. Lol!
A Polar Express train ride
Firstly, if you haven’t watched Polar Express, go watch it now. This is another activity based off of a movie and I want that experience in real life.
Sledding or Skiing
I’m the most uncoordinated person I know, so I’m prepared to spend a lot of time lying in the snow. It would also be pretty cool to wear real snow gear for the first time in my life too.
Roast marshmallows in the fireplace for homemade s’mores.
I’ve had roasted marshmallows over candles, ovens, bonfires and regular fires to make smores. However, for some reason I feel like having them during the holidays will hit different. Just imagine roasting marshmallows with a tree lit in the background while Christmas movies are on and the aroma from your holiday candles fill the room. Doesn’t that seem magical?! I need that.
The wonderful thing about this season and life in general is that there are so many opportunities to experience things in so many different ways! I know I will not check many of these holiday activities off of my holiday bucket list this year, but in time I will. And when I do it will add to my many beautiful holiday memories.
There’s so much to do during the holidays! So let’s chat about it all! What holiday activities are sitting idle on your bucket list? Are there any holiday activities on my list that you would consider adding to your own holiday bucket list? Let me know in the comments below!

I need to go see some Christmas lights! Thanks for helping us stay festive despite the pandemic.
I hope you did! And you’re welcome! We all deserve a few festive distractions or just any kind of distractions at this point. Lol!
Great list! Gingerbread houses are fun to make! And roasted marshmallows are awesome on a winter day! Thanks for sharing!
Anything with food involved is a bonus for me. Lol! And you’re welcome!
Okay, the polar express one is definitely a dream, as well as kissing under the mistletoe! Omg
Right!? The Christmas movies hyped them up and they’ve been stuck in my head ever since. Definitely need to check those off the list soon.
