Transfer Proof Lip Favorites

Earlier this month, I was confronted with the task of trying to decide which one of my favorite lipsticks I should wear. Since then, I’ve also been trying to figure out the difference between lipsticks, lip stains, lippies, and lip pigments. My spur of the moment spring cleaning caused me to toss quite a few lipsticks. Out of everything that I got rid of, the ones on this list are the ones I ended up keeping. So while we’re all gearing up for the weekend, I thought I’d share my transfer proof lip favorites. Time to pucker up and get ready to find your new pout!

Smashbox

My first run in with transfer proof lipstick was with Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick. I don’t know one makeup guru who isn’t familiar with the magic of this line. One of my all time favorite shades is Bawse. The runner up is Stepping Out. Bawse lives up to it’s name because it demands attention, which it should since it’s cherry red. Stepping Out is just the perfect shade to make it look as if my lips are naturally matte. A few other favorites of mine from this line are Babe Alert, Tar Pit, Bold Digger, and Punked Rock.

Fenty Beauty

My longest standing obsession transfer proof lip Fenty Beauty by Rihanna’s Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color. Man, that’s a mouth full. This line includes eight diversely crafted shades. I only managed to test four of the eight shades and of course the red is going to be my favorite here too. I love to keep it Uncensored and Uncuffed for everyday activities. Unveil & Undefeated used to be on my wish list but they’ve made it to my makeup drawer too. I love mixing Uncuffed and Unveiled and Uncensored to get the ultimate Ombre lip look. The thing that leaves me in awe is the applicator wand because it feels as though it is made specifically for your lips.

Lime Crime

The Lime Crime Velventines are a old fav of mine. They definitely help me when I feel the need to unleash my personality on the world. All I have to do is bat my pretty little eyes, pout and I can get all the unicorns and rainbows to appear. Okay not really, but that’s the kind of mood this line puts me in. It’s very playful. The line is both cruelty free and vegan. My all time favorite is surprisingly not a shade of red, but instead a very metallic brown labeled as Pumpkin. Each metallic Velventine has a unique metallic finish that wears really well for hours.

NYXX

I went through an obsessive phase with NYXX and I deeply regret it. Not because of a bad experience, but because I literally invested in a ginormous box of over 60 lippies from them one holiday and had no room for it. I ended up giving most of them away recently because the shelf life was about to expire soon. Agh, such a painful separation The best thing about NYXX is the creamy texture. It’s almost like dipping your finger in whipped Vaseline and rubbing it across your lips.

NARS

Last but not least, the Powermatte Lip Pigment by NARS. I love the liquid texture & how hydrated my lips feel after using it, but it’s not necessarily transfer proof. It quickly goes on and dries up, but it failed the tissue, glass and hand test. Which means it’s not the best candidate for date night. However, it is the most flawless for a photo op! The liquid application allows this to glide on effortlessly. Just make sure your lips are smooth and ready to go!

Tips

Don’t apply transfer proof lipsticks directly after applying chap stick or lip masks.

The lipsticks will loose its transfer proof characteristics if you do. I highly recommend continuing your regular lip care routine, but be sure to do so long before applying your lipstick.

Invest in a mini!

If you are worried about investing too much in lipsticks, then go small! Invest in a mini. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t wear something on your lips everyday. The mini versions fit in your purse, those pointless mini pockets in your jeans and any other hidden compartment.

Save time, shop prime & research before you buy.

I purchased most of my lip favorites from Sephora when I had the time. It could take me up to an hour in a makeup store in order to find out which color and brand works best for my preferences. If you already know what colors work best for you and the qualities you’re looking for, I recommend ordering them online from places like Amazon.

So talk to me! What are your lip favorites? Where do you shop for your makeup favorites? Do you have any makeup hacks?

  1. Stila is one that i really like, too! I love lime crime a lot because it’s a tad more rock and roll than most. I used to be a huge follower of Urban Decay but their lipsticks just seem to be getting worse and worse and they always feather down or smudge off and I remember it being better 10 years ago! Such a bummer!

    1. Yes, Stilla has some really nice metallic transfer proof lipsticks too! They’re even formulated without all the bad stuff which is another thing I consider as a huge bonus when it comes to my makeup. Something that might help with the feathering & smudging is the application process. I used to apply lipstick three times before I was convinced it looked okay, but it cause a lot of my favorites to feather & smudge too! Now I make sure I give it one good layer, blot or dab on the imperfections, and then one more layer for perfection.

    1. Picking the right shade is tough and sometimes it can be a little overwhelming too. What really helps me when I’m looking for the right lip shade is knowing what color tops look best on me. It sounds a little weird, but it turns out the colors that really pop against my skin tone end up being the same colors that give me the perfect pout. Hope this helps!
